rainbow frog

Rainbow Frog, 2011. 16 cms H X 14.5 cms W. Woven tapestry, cotton warp, wool, cotton, synthetic wefts. An assignment to dispell the romantic nexus of environmental subject and formalist treatment. Polyester threads mimic the wet look of frog’s skin. The colour palette has been reduced to accentuate the spectrum of colours that the frog wears naturally. Parallel contrasts of red twig with red eye and blue underjaw with blue background provide visual tension. Feiniger-like thin wedges of colour at the frog’s belly [dark blue, rust, aqua, mauve, yellow] comprise the energy fulcrum of the work.
