Annika Eckdahl

The Swedish tapestry weaver Annika Eckdahl came to Australia at the request of Brett Alexander who ran the Arts dept of Newcastle Uni; he also arranged for me to talk to his fibre students. In 2008 both Annika and I gave talks at the ANU Tapestry Conference. She spoke wittily and only later admitted to serious jetlag. Her Facebook site is an excellent intro to tapestry weaving. She is clearly a master weaver of large lyrical images.

On a personal note I have to admire her house cat making herself at home among the yarns; my own Tonkinese brute used to jump onto any tapestry I unrolled and lie there in langorous, imbecilic bliss.
