music vids

Last night a UK doco charted [literally] the developmt of music vids: starting with Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody. Very quickly the corporate strategy was spend lavishly to make big profits. Then they showed the UK director’s work on Michael Jackson’s first vid, Billy Jean. He looked very earnest & talented, endearingly so; shockingly, the vid guy said MTV refused at that time in the 1980’s to show black people on their show.

Jump from London style to Midnight Oil doing its vids: raw, earnest. As a Scandinavian fan blogged on Youtube: you don’t need a voice, or clothes fashion sense, just PASSION. Peter Garrett had that in abundance, dare to dream.

Now he’s tried his hand at political power; I want a new party to run the country in Sept: how about Midnight Oil to form cabinet, Wikileaks to run the the Senate.

But I’m minded of the scene in Tolkein’s Lord of the Rings where Frodo offers the ring to Galadriel; she says she would make a better ruler than Sauron, more beautiful but more terrible. Phaps pollies need to be confined to their glam kennels?
