MELBOURNE the musical

The Border Police said it would begin an initiative to check people’s papers on the streets of Melbourne over the weekend.

Happily, people thought this so outrageous that they began a flash mob protest which managed to block Flinders Street intersection and the sunglass-decked cops slunk away.

The head of the Border Police gave a media interview in Canberra; the initial press release detailed Melbourne police would target people of suspect visa details and anti social behaviour that they came across on the weekend. He described this press statement as having issued from a low level of the organisation, was unfortunately phrased and did not do the Border Police justice.

Unfortunately, my skin is white, so this time I am not a target, and usually my behaviour is not anti-social. I was however a refugee at birth; I was attacked at Primary school as a “reffo kid” & encouraged to “go back to where I came from”. Anyway, this police behaviour is better kept for musical comedy creativity onstage. However, springtime for Hitler in Germany has already been used in a theatrical setting.
